MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is bringing its representation to the Marquette area. For the entire weekend and for the first time, the KBIC Pow Wow is being held at the Superior Dome.
This year and expanding from their 6 vendors at the Ojibwa Casino, the Pow Wow now is supporting over 30 vendors for folks to enjoy. Officials with the Pow Wow committee said this isn’t just a way for the KBIC to show off their culture but also an event to teach the culture as well.
“If anybody wants to know the best time is to come, Saturday we call it Saturday night live everybody comes out, 7 o’clock grand entry with their best of the best ready to go. It’s quite a site to see every night of the weekend, but Saturday is where it’s at,” commented President of the Pow Wow Committee Christine Awonohopay.
The Pow Wow continues through the weekend, with Grand Entry dances every night.
