MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – Bruce Closser, a 78 year old Marquette resident, holds the world record for the oldest person to ride across the United States on a bike.
He holds this record for his bike ride in 2023 from Virginia to Oregon, an over 4,200 mile ride across 9 states.
On Wednesday night, Closser was at the Marquette Regional History Museum talking about his amazing accomplishment, and why he took the ride when he did.
“I was at an inflection point in my life,” said Closser, “my wife had died and I was living alone for the first time in my life really. Life was different than it had been for the last 54 years.”
Closser officially completed his bike ride on August 22nd of 2023 after 109 days of riding.
