Champion man charged after leading police on a chase from Ishpeming to Skandia

ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPDATE ON APRIL 17, 2024

The Champion man has now been identified as Hunter Prisk.

Prisk was arraigned yesterday at the Marquette County District Court for four counts of 3rd degree fleeing or obstructing police, one count of driving without insurance, one count of reckless driving, and one count of driving with a suspended license, revoked, or denied license.

His bond was set to $2500 for each of the fleeing police charges, and a PR bond for the remaining three charges.

Prisk’s next court date will be a probable cause conference on April 25th which is not open to the public, then a hearing on May 8th which will be open to the public.

A Champion man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a chase through Ishpeming into Skandia.

Ishpeming police say around 9:22 p.m. Monday, police attempted to stop a person on a black Kawasaki motorcycle near the intersection of Jasper St. and Summit St. When the officer turned on the emergency lights, the motorcyclist sped off.

Police chased the suspect through Negaunee to County Road 480, then to M-553, ending on M-94 near Engman Lake Rd. in Skandia.

A 23-year-old man from Champion was taken into custody and lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

He’s charged with four counts of felony fourth degree fleeing a police officer, each count carrying a possible two-year sentence; misdemeanor reckless driving; operating a vehicle with a revoked license; and operating a vehicle without security (insurance).

The City of Ishpeming Police Department was assisted by the Negaunee Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Chocolay Township Police Department and Forsyth Township Police Department.

No further information regarding this incident will be released. The name of the suspect will not be released prior to his arraignment.
