ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – April 7th is now officially “Hematite Day” in Ishpeming in celebration of the Ishpeming High Schools Girls Basketball state championship.
The City Council unanimously voted tonight to honor the girls who brought the school its first ever state championship this year. April 7th is the day the school held a banquet to commemorate the team and fans who supported them all year long.
Mayor Jason Chapman says the entire city is proud of all the hard work by the team.
“The team has become a great source of pride within our community as well as throughout the County, the Upper Peninsula, and the state of Michigan,” remarked Chapman.
The proclamation will be presented to the team later this week.
