WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 60-billion-dollar aid package for Ukraine has been held up in congress for months. While the Senate has approved an aid package for Ukraine, House Republican infighting is complicating this deal.
Before members went on a two-week break, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R- GA) filed a motion to vacate Speaker Mike Johnson (R- LA) from his position. In a letter to her colleagues, she said Johnson is walking back on promises he made to earn the speakership. The congresswoman also said the Speaker’s focus is now on the 60-billion-dollar aid package for Ukraine. She’s claiming the majority of American’s believe our border is the only border to go to war over. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R- KY) hopes the Speaker puts the legislation on the floor. We asked Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman (D- PA) his thoughts on the aid deal and the chaos in the House:
“Do their job and vote and deliver the Ukraine aid,” said Sen. Fetterman. “We’ve done that a long time ago. I voted on that, we had 70 votes here out of the Senate and I don’t know why they’re still d***ing around on this.”
Johnson has vowed to put Ukraine aid on the floor. Doing so could put his speakership on the line. Proponents for the Ukraine aid argue Ukraine needs this funding or else they will lose the war with Russia.
