MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Grant focused on sustainable tourism and response to natural disasters is making its funds useful in the UP. Through the Superior Watershed Partnership, the Michigan Department of Agriculture Grant program awarded $50,000 to the SWP to fund staff training in rural disasters.
SWP is in the process of expanding its Great Lakes Climate Corps Program to support 30 seasonal staff to the 15 counties across the UP.
“Utilize these GLCC crews to respond to natural disasters like the flood in Houghton in 2018 we were there in 24 hours and that rapid response we can provide as a local group that state agencies can’t provide,” commented Superior Watershed Partnership Program Manager Tyler Penrod.
