ISHPMEING, Mich, (WZMQ) – Ishpeming will be seeing some traffic changes this summer as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues a road project started last year.
Tomorrow MDOT plans to continue a six-million-dollar project to put a roundabout at the intersection of M-28, US-41, and Lakeshore Dr.
There will be a detour for Lakeshore Dr. on Country Ln. and River Pkwy. and sections of the highway will be reduced to fewer lanes, starting with US-41 which will moved over to only the left lanes during the current phase of the project.
“We’re trying to maintain a minimum of one lane in each direction on the highway throughout the project,” said MDOT UP Communications Representative Dan Weingarten, “and we’ll be doing that by building the roundabout in sections, so that the entire highway is closed at any one time.
MDOT plans to have the current phase of the project done by the end of July, and the entire project done by late October.
