MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – Marquette’s American Legion youth hockey team lost its first game this year but still managed to battle its way to a state championship.
Now they are headed to New York in a couple of weeks to play for the national championship title against the best youth teams in the country.
American Legion Hockey Coach Jon Nebel says opportunities like his are rare and the team is excited to compete.
“This is a once in a lifetime experience for most players,” said Nebel. “So this is the first time that any one of these players, for many of them have had a chance to get to a national tournament.”
The national tournament begins on April 3rd when Marquette will face off against New York’s state champs.
