MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Even though this winter season has not been the best for skiing and snowboarding, Marquette Mountain wanted to ensure the annual Spring Carnival celebration still happened, so organizers moved the event up two weeks.
A couple of events did have to be modified or changed due to weather conditions, the biggest being the lack of a slush cup due to there not being enough snow to make that hole in the ground.
However, they did add some new races to make up for it, bringing back an original “King of the Hill” or as they called it this year’s cup race.
Assistant General Manager Jennifer Stanton shared how hard the team was working on getting this event rolling, “Everyone’s been working their butts off to get this together and make the conditions nice like they are today actually um, moving snow all around, we got people in all night uh, they’ve worked hard.”
Even with the hurdle of weather, the community still came out and enjoyed all the festivities of the spring carnival. They offered various slalom races, costume contests, food to enjoy, and apparel to shop. Marquette Mountain’s team was grateful for all those who came out to end another winter season with them and are hopeful for next year to be better.
