KINGSFORD, Mich. (WZMQ) In a heart-pounding match that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Kingsford Flivvers clinched the district title against Escanaba in a gripping showdown. The Flivvers started strong, dominating the first half with a commanding lead of 25-15 at halftime.
As tensions escalated in the final quarter, junior Gavin Grondin of the Flivvers showcased his skill with a crucial layup, only to be met with a three-point shot from Escanaba on the sideline. With just 47 seconds remaining, Escanaba’s senior Shane Wallin delivered another three-point shot, narrowing the gap and putting the pressure on the Flivvers.
With the clock ticking down and the game on the line, Flivvers’ coach called a timeout to strategize their next move. In the final moments of the 4th quarter, junior Morgan Sleik stepped up to the free-throw line for the Flivvers, sinking a crucial shot.
But it was the defensive prowess of junior Flivver Gavin Grondin that sealed the deal, as he made a pivotal play to regain possession for his team. Grondin swiftly passed the ball to Junior Joey Weber, who executed a flawless layup on the left side of the lane, extending the Flivvers’ lead.
Despite a last-second layup from Escanaba at the buzzer, the Flivvers emerged victorious, securing the district title with a commanding lead of at least six points over their rivals.
