ISHPMEING, Mich, (WZMQ) – After ending the football season 1 and 8 this year, Westwood High School hired a new varsity head coach last Monday to help turn things around.
The new coach, Tyler Thomas, has been coaching Ontonagon’s eight-man team, but is originally from Negaunee.
Thomas said he plans to focus on fostering a sense of teamwork and community both on and off the field.
“Also just a family mentality. Like hey we’re doing this together,” said Thomas. “You’re doing this for the person that’s standing right next to you as well, you’re doing it for your family, you’re doing it for you community. So, a sense of togetherness is what it’s going to take to get this program back on track.”
Thomas is currently living in Ontonagon, but plans to move back to Marquette County in time for the start of the football season this fall.
