MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Tuesday, February 27th, 2024, marks Michigan’s Presidential primary election, with voters deciding between the Democrat or Republican candidates and a couple of local proposals. Since the state passed a law late last year (2023) allowing more registered voters at each precinct, Marquette has condensed from 7 voting precincts down to 4.
Marquette City Clerk said that as of around 11:30 AM on Tuesday, there had only been around 100 voters at the YMCA, and that as absentee ballots become a more popular choice among voters, there’s less and less in person. “As the elections get busier you’ll have more people voting absentee more people voting in precinct obviously but there’s kind of an absentee floor where there’s 24, 2500 absentee votes, and in a slow election you might only see 500 people voting in person,” commented Marquette City Clerk Kyle Whitney.
