WELLS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – While early voting was a new experience for Michigan clerks, one says the process went smoothly thanks to the dedication of their county clerk.
Delta County Clerk Nancy Przewrocki worked with each precinct to organize a centralized early voting location. Ford River Township Clerk Debbie Brown says Przewrocki took on much of the workload—as well as the financial load—off of city and township clerks by limiting the number of poll workers needed.
“We didn’t have to invest the full nine days of our help into it,” said Brown. “We just all picked dates and times that our workers were available, and we only need four workers a day rather than keep our own polls open for eight hours a day for nine days in a row. It’s a lot less manpower hours.”
Brown says precincts saved thousands of dollars on the expensive endeavor by all contributing to the county’s purchase of equipment for the early voting period.
“It’s separate from our regular voting equipment,” Brown said. “It’s all a little bit different and it was a longer learning process for everybody involved. The county purchased it all, and each individual precinct will be responsible for a small payment in the end. It made it a lot more cost-effective that we didn’t have to push as much cost onto the individual taxpayers.”
Brown says she and other clerks are grateful for Przewrocki’s hard work to make early voting a success in Delta County.
“She’s amazing,” said Brown. “It’s really, really a lot of work she put into it and we’re very thankful for her.”
