MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Educators from around the Upper Peninsula gathered at Marquette-Alger RESA for their annual Legislative Breakfast on Saturday morning.
Elected officials from all over the state were in attendance to discuss what changes or opinion’s they have on education policies. Members from several different school districts from around the U.P. were in attendance, including some who are involved with home-schooling.
On policy that was discussed was how to work with children with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, as well as how to not let those kids fall between the cracks. Everyone was passionate about the topics, and wanted to see change come from these discussions.
“As we are making public policies for the entire state of Michigan, we are hearing everyone’s voices and thinking about the entire state which doesn’t always happen,” said State Representative Jason Morgan, who represents the 23rd State District. “So this is gonna help make sure that happens and I’m really glad to be here and be part of it.”
There where no polices or changes put in place at the event, however multiple school representatives where able to share what they felt should be looked at and rethought, or ideas that they believe should be added. One popular topics was making sure all children are getting an education, even if outside factors and effecting them, making sure either online, at home, or in school they are receiving an education.
Organizers from Marquette-Alger RESA said they liked the turn-out at the event, and were looking forward to hosting it again next year. To learn more about Marquette-Alger RESA, click here.
