MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On his visit through the UP, Lt. Governor Gilchrist spoke with a small team at Northern Michigan University making an impact in the state’s cold cases.
The Cold Case Academic program is a team of 8 students all with law enforcement career goals who spend hours collaborating with officers to uncover new details in closed cases.
The team has been able to deliver over 100 investigative leads and the Lt. Governor said giving the students not only hands-on work, but actual resources in their field of interest is the next step in expanding this opportunity to other schools.
“So again to me, this is a tremendous opportunity to frankly make life better their gonna be closer to solving these cases for these families bringing closure to these situations because of the collaboration and that’s exactly what collaborations should be for to help us reach our common goals,” said Lt. Governor Gilchrist.
Lt. Gilchrist commented that communication between other institutions is key for programs like this to take off and expand.
