EXCLUSIVE: Nikki Haley Speaks to WZMQ on Campaign

by Rachel Knapp
February 7, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican Presidential candidate Nikki Haley suffered a huge loss in Nevada after voters chose ‘none of these candidates’ over Haley. Haley has lagged behind former President Donald Trump in the race for the Republican nomination but hopes South Carolina will turn things around for her. We spoke exclusively with Haley on the election.

“This is about representing everybody and pulling people into our fold,” said Haley. “We’ve gotta go and get our country back on track.”

In a virtual interview with Haley, no topic was off limits, like her plan for the economy.

“60 percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck so what I think we need to do to get our economy back on track,” said Haley. “first of all, claw back the 100-billion unspent COVID dollars that is still out there. Instead of 87-thousand IRS agents going after middle America, go after the hundreds of billions of dollars of COVID fraud.”

“We’re watching the rich get richer and the poor get poorer so we want to eliminate the federal gas and diesel tax in this country,” said Haley. “We want to cut taxes for the middle class and simplify tax brackets and we want to make small business tax cuts permanent.”

The Great Lakes, a treasure for our communities, are weathering the impacts of climate change. We asked her about how she would mitigate the impact of climate change.

“First of all I’m a believer in climate change,” responded Haley. “When we look at the environment it should not be partisan. We all want clean air, we all want clean water. We all want an earth that we can leave for our kids and grandkids. In order to do that we have to partner with our producers instead of demonizing our producers.”

“First call out the bad actors,” said Haley. “India and China are our biggest polluters. We need to get together with the rest of the world and start holding those two countries accountable. Otherwise, they’re not changing no matter how much activity we change, if they’re not it’s not going to make a difference.”

Former President Donald Trump dominated both Iowa and New Hampshire but Haley is campaigning hard in her home state of South Carolina ahead of their primary.

“Chaos follows him,” Haley said referring to Trump. “And we really gotta start focusing on what we’re gonna do about the debt and get it back on track. How we’re going to get our kids reading again and go back to the basics for education. How we’re gonna secure our borders once and for all. How we’re gonna bring our law and order back to our cities and what we’re going to do about these wars. We need to be preventing wars not starting them.”
