ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Northern Lights YMCA is raising funds to keep wellness accessible to everyone.
The YMCA’s Annual Campaign is currently underway. Each year, volunteers solicit community donations toward resources like youth sports, swimming lessons, lifeguarding and CPR classes, free community health programming, and more. This year’s campaign goal is $105,000.
Associate Executive Director Caron Salo says in 2023, the YMCA was able to provide more than 1,400 individuals with direct financial assistance for programs like Day Camp.
“For Day Camp, we have about 25 kids per week that are on financial assistance,” said Salo. “It’s safe time for their parents to be able to attend work during the summer months. Without this campaign, some of those families may not be working and staying home with their children.”
Approximately 75 volunteers have been working to raise the needed funds. Salo says they are always grateful for the public’s enthusiastic support of the YMCA.
“I’m involved in many Ys across the Midwest, and I can tell you by far, Delta County has one of the most generous communities I have ever seen,” she said.
