IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Operations Manager Cameron O’Connor expressed enthusiasm about the grand opening, stating, “The Midtown Quick Lube is something that the owner always wanted to have done. We wanted to be able to preventatively maintain vehicles and to have a very cool place and a destination to experience it.”
O’Connor also highlighted the significance of having Gilbert Brown present, saying, “Yeah, we’re celebrating our grand opening and our open house. We brought Gilbert Brown from the 96 Packers Super Bowl champ.” Brown diligently signed autographs, posed for fan pictures, and chatted up the local Green Bay Packer memorabilia collectors during the celebration.
Brown, nicknamed “The Gravedigger” reflected on his love of cars. Brown, who owns 25 vehicles himself, shared, “My dad got me into a love of cars because he worked at the Jefferson assembly plant for Chrysler. So he always had a Mopar, so that’s where my love of cars comes from.”
Excited to explore Iron Mountain, Brown exclaimed, “I think as far as I’ve been [in the U.P.] is to Escanaba. This is my first time in Iron Mountain, so it’s kind of nice. I love it. I’m waiting for BigFoot to jump out somewhere.”
Recalling his time as a Packer where he played in 125 Packers games and recorded 292 tackles and 7 sacks. He impressively defended the team during the mid-90’s, and is remembered fondly for his season in 1997 when Green Bay won Super Bowl XXXI. Brown shared, “My favorite memory is just being a Packer. Period. You know that the ‘G’ on the side of the helmet stands for greatness. So we try to live up to that. And I’m going to tell you, I was over there for 11 years. We had a hallway that we’d walk down every day to go to work. It was just every day. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. In this hallway you’ve got pictures of the greats on each wall and on the ceiling are banners of all the championships we’d win. For 11 years, coming to work. I walked down that hallway and the hair on the back of my neck stood up every day. That’s called tradition. We have a lot of it.”
O’Connor, a devoted Packers fan, reminisced, telling Brown and WZMQ “We’re die-hard Packer fans. In fact, yesterday I whipped out a 30-year-old Cheesehead that I wore when you guys were in New Orleans that year winning, and I was 6 years old.”
Brown, impressed by O’Connor’s dedication, remarked, “Oh Wow. I knew I liked him.”
Looking ahead, Brown outlined his busy schedule, including a Super Bowl party in Madison with Ahman Green and Dorsey Levins, and he’s scheduled for an upcoming sit down with Brett Favre. He looks forward to his February birthday, noting he’ll have a busy month.
As for Mid-Town Quick Lube, O’Connor emphasized, “Everything. So of course, we’re just starting off and the guest is our number 1 focus. So whatever the guest wants us to have happen, we are going to make it happen.”
Brown praised the unique amenities of the Quick Lube, stating, “And I must say that it’s pretty cool that you have a lounge at an oil-change place. I’ve never seen that before, so.”
O’Connor expressed gratitude to the owner, Bill Neuens, and Brown encouraged everyone to visit the Quick Lube, saying, “It’s a great place, come on out and get your oil changed. And come on in the lounge for the free stuff.”
The customer-service oriented Quick Lube is open Monday–Friday 7:30–5:30 and Saturdays 8:00-3:00 CST.
The new Iron Mountain Midtown Quick Lube is active on social media, and responds to Facebook.
