President Biden visit’s UAW in Detroit following endorsement

DETROIT, Mich. (WZMQ) – President Joe Biden visited Michigan on Thursday to speak with the United Auto Workers. His visit follows Union President Shawn Fain’s endorsement of President Biden’s 2024 campaign.

Air Force One and President  Biden touched down early Thursday afternoon. Joined by Senators Debbie Stabenow, Gary Peters, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer, he visited with union workers around Detroit.

On January 24th, UAW President Shawn Fain endorsed President Biden in his current run for reelection. Fain said that come November, union workers can either elect someone who wants to stand with them and support their cause or someone who will divide them and fight them every step of the way.

“This is our shot, this is our time, this is our mission,” Fain said. “From this day forward, we’re going to fight like hell and we’re going to ensure that Joe Biden is the next president, so the working class keeps moving forward.”

Michigan’s Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrest, Speaker of the House Joe Tate, and U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell also joined the group of Democrat leaders.

While addressing the union workers, President Biden said he’s focused on prioritizing American manufacturing and supporting the U.S. middle class.

“Wall Street didn’t build the middle class. Labor built the middle class, and the middle class built the country.” President Biden said. “The single biggest reason why unions are growing, the single biggest reason why the economy is growing,  is because you are the best workers in the world. that’s not hyperbole.”

President Biden made a few other stops, visiting and talking with union workers around the city, thanking them for their work and their support just 26 days before Michigan’s presidential primary elections.
