Early voting training prepares Dickinson County for primary election

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Election worker training unfolded for Dickinson County in preparation for the upcoming February 27th primary election. Approximately 100 election workers honed their skills between the two dedicated sessions. To ensure clarity, the county clerk emphasized that Kingsford City Hall’s new voting center exclusively caters to early voters, urging those voting on Election Day to visit their regular precincts.

Tanya Hiltonen, a well-versed Deputy Clerk for the City of Kingsford, is encouraging registered Dickinson County voters to cast their ballots at city hall for the early voting period, stating,

“The voters voted in the constitutional right to vote for nine days of early voting starting on Saturday, February 17 and ending on Sunday, February 25. It’s 8 AM to 4 PM at Kingsford City Hall for all Dickinson county voters, and the reason why you’d want early vote, is that it’s the same exact process as you would vote on election day.”

Hiltonen further explained the seamless process, mentioning, “The machine that will tabulate your vote is the same machine that we’ve used in the state of Michigan. The process to get your ballot is a little bit different from election day; instead of having paper stock of ballots, we will determine which precinct you’re with, and then a ballot will be printed out and given to you to vote, so it’s a ballot-on-demand system.” Hiltonen mentioned that the early voting period is also open to challengers and poll watchers.

Encouraging active participation, Hiltonen stated, “I welcome everybody that’s a registered voter to come to Kingsford City Hall and early vote. It’s here to stay, and I hope everybody takes advantage of it.”

Registered Dickinson County voters can cast their early votes at Kingsford City Hall from 8 AM to 4 PM Central Time during the nine days leading up to the primary. The process mirrors Election Day, providing a familiar experience for voters and accommodating those who prefer early voting over absentee options. Approximately 4,100 registered voters just within the city of Kingsford alone have the opportunity to participate in this extended voting period.
