QUINNESEC, Mich. (WZMQ) – In a heartfelt response to a tragic accident, members of the Borderhounds Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club are mobilizing to make club member Sam Baab’s home accessible after a motorcycle accident left him paralyzed. The club has raised approximately $1300 of their $10,000 goal on GoFundMe to fund the modifications.
Baab, a cherished club member, encountered loose gravel during his first long road trip this summer, leading to a devastating crash. He is currently receiving care at a Minnesota VA hospital.
Club President Craig Vanpembrook shared, “He’s an honorable vet. He’s paralyzed from the chest down. He is ambitious and he’s getting around good. He’s been in a VA there since June. He’s a charger. He’s got great will. You know, he’s not a pity person.”
The community has rallied behind this cause, with businesses like Town & Country Ford and Bill Neuens Enterprise providing flooring and equipment. However, the Borderhounds urgently need skilled trades, especially a plumbing expert, for the creation of a fully accessible bathroom. Carpenters and electricians are also sought after for various tasks.
Honorary Member Brian Starnes expressed, “Moving things, anything. You know, I mean painting. Almost anybody could paint. But if anyone wants to help, we would love to have them.”
Club Member Matt White is actively involved, updating electrical receptacles, stating, “Right now, I’m replacing the receptacles, I’m just kind of updating them a little bit. I want to get these on before we move all the stuff that’s stacked over there.”
However, there is still much to be done, with tiles and other bathroom essentials yet to be purchased.
The urgency is palpable, as Baab is expected to return home from the hospital in about a month. Skilled tradespeople, especially plumbers, are urged to contact the Borderhounds Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club’s Vice President, Jesse Brown, at 715-245-9711 to contribute their expertise to this noble cause.
