ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Saturday afternoon, at approximately 1:35 in the afternoon, the Ishpeming Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 618 N. Third Street in the City of Ishpeming.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a two-story home with light smoke coming from a second story window. Firefighters found a mattress that was on fire in a bedroom, and were able to put out the fire right away and contain the fire to the bedroom. The cause of the fire was determined to be improper use of a candle.
The home sustained moderate smoke and water damage, and crews remained on the scene for around an hour to vent the structure.
The building was occupied at the time of the fire, and all residents were able to get out. Pigs-N-Heat and the Red Cross will be assisting the residents.
No firefighters were injured. The Ishpeming Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Ishpeming Police Department, Negaunee City Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, Marquette County Central Dispatch, SEMCO, and UPPCO.
