ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The sales season is wrapping up for a Christmas tree lot in Escanaba.
Sargent’s Evergreen is a family-owned business that sells Christmas trees throughout the Upper Peninsula. This season, Sargent’s Evergreen had trees and wreaths available in the Elmer’s County Market parking lot, as well as outside the Bald Eagle Harley-Davidson in Marquette.
“The trees are fresh-cut and they’re locally grown,” said salesman Steve Sturdy. “We have Fraser firs, Canaans, balsams, white pine, white spruce, blue spruce, and Scotch pine, so we have a very good variety of long needle and short needle trees. Whatever people want, we have.”
Sturdy says it has been a strong season for Christmas tree sales. Although there have been economic challenges this year, he says they have not dampened customers’ enthusiasm for the holidays.
“We were a little bit afraid of that, but it’s been pretty much the same as last year,” Sturdy said. “We try to keep our prices down, but we had to raise them a little bit because our costs are up, but we try to supply the Christmas spirit to the people. That’s what we’re here for, to sell trees and make people happy.”
Christmas trees are a year-long business for Sargent’s Evergreen, so Sturdy says the team is already preparing for the next holiday season.
