SANDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPAWS is holding their “Empty the Shelter” event!

Yesterday, December 7th, UPAWS started their holiday pop up shop. This event, put on due to a partnership with Bissel Pet Foundations, Empty the Shelter, makes it easier for families to adopt an animal by reducing the adoption fee’s.

The event includes any small animal at the shelter, and dogs and cats that are OVER six months old. Cats will be available for $10, dogs $50 and small pets are free! All adoptions made at UPAWS include, a spay or neuter, all initial vaccinations, a health check, and a microchip for your new pet.

“We have so many animals that are wonderful and are looking for loving homes,” says Ann Brownell, community outreach and volunteer coordinator at UPAWS. “They didn’t ask to be homeless, they didn’t ask to be here, so it’s our job to help them find those homes and with the Bissel partnership we can Certainly do that, and are very very grateful.”

When choosing to adopt and animal there are some steps that need to be done prior, you must schedule a meet and greet. To look through adoptable animals at UPAWS and schedule an appointment, first visit their site, find the animal or animals you want meet, fill out the adoption interest form and either schedule a meet a great online, or by calling the UPAWS office at (906) 475-6661.

This event will be going on through December 17th, running from 12 – 4pm, Tuesday through Thursday, and 11am – 4pm, Friday through Sunday.

“We hope to see that we empty the shelter completely,” says Brownell. “That every animal gets a home for the holidays, and forevermore; it would be a dream come true, our holiday wish.”
