NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two cities in the UP are looking for blood donors ahead of a yearly battle. The cities of Negaunee and Ishpeming have partnered with the U.P. Regional Blood Center for the Blood Battle. This fun setting for the competition started with the two cities battling to see who could receive the most donations.
The battle, now in its 3rd year, involves the Ishpeming and Negaunee High School Honor Society, and the city with the most pints will receive an honorary blood drive trophy that’s traded off yearly.
“Comes with a trophy that the winning team gets to hold on to for a year and bragging rights and so last year we came out on top and so now we’re in year 3 so the tie-breaker is this year and this year Negaunee is out first and we’ll be out second and yea we’ll see how we do,” commented Ishpeming City Manager Craig Cugini.
This year, the City of Negaunee, local businesses, and the Negaunee High School Honor Society will be participating, and the Ishpeming blood drive will be held on January 4th.
