MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – The MAPS School Board has been working on new branding and a new nickname for Marquette Senior High School (MSHS) since it retired the “Redmen” nickname in August.
Tonight the board looked at the nearly 2000 online suggestions for a new nickname to begin to narrow down the most popular options.
They hope to get a list of 40 to 50 nicknames before involving student advisory groups who will give their input before the board makes their final decision.
MAPS School Board President Kristen Cambensy said the board is doing its best to find a nickname the community supports.
“A nickname really helps create community within a school,” said Cambensy it gives something to really behind for the students and the staff and the community, so it is important to find something that really speaks to our community.”
The School Board said it plans to have another meeting later this month.
It hopes to have a name selected before the beginning of next school year.
