Mountain View Ice Arena Gears Up for sixth annual Teddy Bear Toss

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich (WZMQ) – Mick Gayan, the First National Bank and Trust Marketing Director, expressed enthusiasm as preparations intensified for the upcoming Teddy Bear Toss at Mountain View Ice Arena. In his words, “This is our sixth annual teddy bear toss, and each year we collect new stuffed toys for emergency crisis centers, supporting hospitals, caring houses, UP foster closets, and various organizations.”

Gayan outlined the impactful donation process, explaining, “We’ll be giving some before Christmas to the hospital and Caringhouse, UP foster closet, and other organizations. Then, in January, we’ll do a second round of donations to the police, fire, and ambulance services who use them all year.” He emphasized the significance of providing comfort in times of crisis, stating, “In emergency situations involving children, a stuffed animal can make a substantial difference in providing comfort.”

For attendees eager to participate, Gayan revealed, “Game admission is just one dollar when you bring a new stuffed toy to donate and throw onto the ice.” Adding an entertaining twist to the event, he mentioned, “Trusty, our First National bear, will be skating around to entertain all the game attendees.”

Highlighting an engaging aspect of the game, Gayan introduced, “During the game, there will be ‘Air The Bear’ challenge, where people can purchase a small numbered bear for five dollars and throw it on the ice. The three closest bears will win fabulous prizes generously donated by our sponsor, Radio Now.” The ‘Air the bear’ challenge is a separate activity from the Teddy Bear Toss, and will be announced during the game.

Looking forward to the matchup, Gayan shared, “It’ll be the Kingsford Flivvers hockey team versus the Jeffers Jets. We expect a good game, and when Kingsford scores their first goal, the arena will come alive with a heartwarming downpour of teddy bears onto the ice, creating a memorable and touching spectacle for all.”
