MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The winter sports season has officially started in the U.P.
Marquette Mountain held a grand opening party yesterday and skiers and snowboarders hit a part of the hill.
The full trail system is not yet open but a small section with jumps, boxes and rails was ready for use. Opening the small park section was not in the works until late last week when groomers and other employees at the mountain came to management and said there was enough snow available to make it happen.
The mountain loved the idea and was eager to welcome season pass holders back and get them out enjoying the snow.
“Just to be able to get people here at the hill back out skiing and boarding, they are just having a blast out there so it is awesome,” remarked Kaet Johnson the General Manager at Marquette Mountain.
The mountain says, weather dependent, they are hoping to open up more sections of trails next weekend.
