MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – River Rock Farms, a Chatham farm well known for their fresh cut flowers and plant nursery, has shifted gears to wreath making for the holiday season.
The farm gathers and grows all of the materials they use to create the wreaths they sell at their stand and at local farmers markets. The farms’ Ideal location makes their wreath making operation possible.
“I think my favorite part of wreath season is going out and harvesting the greens. We are in the smack dab in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest, so we are surrounded by some really amazing Evergreens and Conifers. We go out and take snippets if the tips, and that’s what we use to make our wreaths,” stated Rowan Bunce, owner and operator of River Rock Farms.
Going out and harvesting the greens for the wreaths is a highlight of the season for the farm, and for Bunce as well.
“It’s a labor of love, making wreaths isn’t easy,” Bunce claims.
There is a short window for the farm’s wreath season, from the beginning of November until Christmas, before they shift back to their normal operations.
Each year the farm collaborates with Barrel and Beam Brewery to host a wreath making workshop for the community. Bunce mentioned that he regularly gets inspiration from the public and their creations at the workshops to incorporate into his own wreaths.
River Rock Farms will still be attending the Downtown Marquette Farmers Market until the end of the season, selling their wreaths and other products.
