MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Marquette local ski resort is gearing up for the snowfall this season. Last week, Marquette Mountain was covering the runs with snow, and expected to open the resort this weekend. Wednesday’s warmer weather, however, has caused the Mountain to shut off the snow machines, and now expect to open on December 9th.
The Mountains’ Manager Kaet Johnson said that making snow with the snow guns can be tricky, it takes a balance of humidity and the right temperature which is just not in the weather forecast at the moment. “The runs we put races on we have to get them a little bit deeper depth than the rest of our runs and that kind of thing so we shoot for about 24-36 inches on our race runs to make sure that the racers have the depth they need and so it takes a bit of snow to do that,” commented Johnson.
This weekend, the mountain will have its T-Bar and shop open, for those who are looking to get a ski pass or just enjoy some time at the lodge.
