ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – November 24 – 26, a free event is helping attendees to find the health resources they need.
The inaugural Upper Peninsula Health & Wellness Fair began on Friday at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce. Host Dan Zellar says he wants to shine a spotlight on local organizations in the field.
“I realized that in the area, there are a lot of folks who nurture the idea of promoting health and wellness throughout our community,” he said. “This Health & Wellness Fair is about showing that off.”
The fair features a dozen vendors, including healthcare providers and fitness centers. Zellar is representing AirMedCare Network, where he works as a membership sales manager for the Upper Peninsula.
“We’re the membership service that helps folks live a worry-free existence when it comes to whether or not they’re going to be charged for that helicopter or emergency evac when or if the time comes,” said Zellar. “The AirMedCare network allows you to not have to ever worry about that because we cover those out-of-pocket costs.”
Businesses like Yao’s Spa focus on overall wellness.
“I’ve found the healing modality of touch to be incredibly powerful, especially maybe in this season of cold and high stress,” said massage therapist contractor Katie Bender. “I think our approach at Yao’s is kind of inclusive of Eastern tradition and philosophy of treating the whole person.”
With drawings for door prizes, including a fossil from Orange Cat Antiques, and vendor giveaways, Zellar says there is something everyone can enjoy, and most importantly benefit from, at the Upper Peninsula Health & Wellness Fair. He hopes the event will grow in years to come, along with the wellbeing of Delta County and the U.P.
“We want to see a strong community, we want to see a healthy community, and we want to provide services around that idea that the Upper Peninsula is a beacon of health and wellness in the area,” Zellar said.
The Upper Peninsula Health & Wellness Fair continues until 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
