MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The U.P. Veteran of the year was honored during Northern Michigan University’s hockey game vs Lake Superior State Saturday night.
Jim Provost served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam war, since getting out of the service Provost has helped thousands of veterans. Provost has made it a mission to ensure that no veterans struggle with mental health or homelessness.
During the first intermission of the game, Provost was awarded with a standing ovation and NMU President Brock Tessmen, and Athletic DIrector Rick Comley, presented him with his very own Wildcat jersey
“To be recognized like this is beyond my wildest dreams, it’s not why we do what we do, but it’s really special I’ll tell you,” said Provost.
According to Provost the best way to help veterans is by donating to reputable Veteran organizations, like the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans. Another way to help is by simply visiting the home and having a conversation with one of the Veterans who live there.
