Getzloff Corn Maze now open for autumn festivities

WILSON, Mich. (WZMQ) – Getzloff Corn Maze in Wilson is open for its 14th season.

“We started in 2009 to kind of just give the community something to do,” said co-owner Mike Getzloff. “Seven acres, it’s grown a lot since then.”

Preparation for the autumn activity actually begins in the spring.

“We till the land up, we plant the corn, fertilize it,” Getzloff explained. “Then about two weeks before we start, we map it out, figure out where we’re going to cut, clean it all out, and make the paths as good as we can.”

There are five colorful posts throughout the maze. The challenge is to find each one.

“If you do, you pretty much see all the maze,” Getzloff said. “If you want to go through it fast, 20 minutes you’ll go through it, but if you want to find all the poles, it’s going to take a good hour.”

The maze has a unique design each season. This year, it’s a tribute to graduating seniors.

“We have a set of triplets that are graduating this year and we thought it’d be pretty cool to put ‘Class of 24’ because it’s only once in a lifetime that you get to celebrate that,” said Getzloff. “We’re also for all the schools and classes of 2024.”

The maze is on a fully-operated farm, complete with goats, kittens, bunnies, and more.

“On loan from the Jorasz Family Ranch, we have a baby bison,” Getzloff said. “If you like the picture on Facebook and share it, you can win a chance to feed it with a bottle.”

There are a lot of activities for kids and families—like a barrel train and a super slide—along with concessions.

Guests can also pick a pumpkin from the patch and go on a hayride.

“It goes back through the woods,” Getzloff said. “The next two weekends should be our peak color tours through it. It’s a big draw.”

For the Getzloffs, the corn maze is more than a business. It has become a treasured tradition for them and for their regular customers.

“To see it grow from what it started at… You were happy to see a few cars in the parking lot, and now the parking lot’s full on the weekends,” Getzloff said. “They come with pictures of when their kids were young and they rode in the little barrel train, and now they’re too big to ride in it. We’ve had a wedding proposal here. We really appreciate the community supporting us.”

Getzloff Corn Maze is open Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. All times listed are Eastern Time. Admission is $7 per person, and children ages 4 and under get in for free.
