Upper Peninsula couple finally secures Green Bay Packers season tickets after over 40 years

MUNISING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Sports fans have been known to go through a lot for the teams they love, some even waiting decades for season tickets. Wayne and Kay Dausey are what most would consider “die hard” Packers fans. Originally from Green Bay, Wayne has always been a Packer fan, having grown up six blocks from the team’s original City Stadium. Dausey’s connection to the Packers also spans from his uncle and Packer hall of famer, Pete Tinsley.

“He played in the late 30s and through the mid-40s, he ended up going into the Packer Hall of Fame back in 1979 which at that point we decided that we’re going to get season tickets,” explained Dausey. Wayne and Kay have both been on the wait list for season tickets for over 40 years and commented that when they received the notice, they almost couldn’t believe it.

“Well we knew we’d have to wait quite a while but we didn’t know we’d have to wait so long, we were number 12,000 something when I mailed the envelope the little card in,” said Kay. “Instead of the postcard I get this this is fine, and I open it up and there it is it says welcome to the franchise,” commented Wayne.

Now the waitlist for Packer season tickets has reached over 140,000, and the Dauseys mentioned this number will only grow, because of the loyalty to the team. Although the Midwest can sometimes have unpredictable weather, they said it has never stopped them from taking the drive down to watch the team live. “The neat thing about it is they’ll stick with it, win, lose, or draw,” continued Wayne.

“It’s beautiful and yes it gets cold but who cares, you’re at Lambeau Field watching the Packers play, there are so many people and they come from all over all over the United States even from foreign countries to watch the Packers Play,” continued Kay.

From the model players and stands to even a signed 1965 football, the love for the team has only grown. The couple now been married for over 50 years explained they continued to share a love for the Packers with their own team that started right here in the UP.

“When we call Brenda down in our daughter in St. Louis we don’t dare call her for a packer game, cause I did call her years ago and she said ‘Mom why are you calling now the Packers are playing and I go oh ok I’ll talk to you later,” continued Kay.

This Sunday will be their first regular season game as season ticket holders, and for the Dauseys, their patience, and Packer pride have been rewarded from even the least expected places. “They’re very happy for us…even my Lion friends are very happy about it,” continued Wayne.

The happy couple will also be celebrating their wedding anniversary next week, just in time for Thursday’s Packer Game.

Because Artificial Track is too expensive, and Natural Track may be too dangerous. The International Olympic Committee came up with a plan to merge the two and call it Alpine luge, which would someday give athletes who train here in Negaunee a fast track to Olympic glory.
