IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich (WZMQ) – The upcoming Iron Mountain Half Marathon is gaining a new group of volunteers this year as the Kingsford High School tennis team announced their participation. The team will be running a water station, setting aside their rackets to bond and give back to the community. WZMQ spoke to four of the 22 players who will be helping out, all eagerly looking forward to the experience.
“Just us as a team, like I think that we’d just like to spend more time with each other because our season is pretty short,” shared Abby Przlesakowski, one of the enthusiastic team members.
Interestingly, at least one of the players has been volunteering with the half-marathon for the past two years. The teammates understand the value of the experience and how it can enhance their own sport. Jocelyn Lindbeck expressed her anticipation, saying, “I think it’ll be fun to watch the people run by and stuff.”
Lovell, another dedicated member of the team, is excited about witnessing the runners’ hard work and supporting them by handing out water. “I’m looking forward to seeing all the runners put in their hard work, and I’m excited to hand out the waters and cheer everybody on,” she stated with enthusiasm.
Sylvia Sutton saw volunteering as a great opportunity to give back to the community. “I thought it was a great way to give back to the community, and if people are coming out here to run, I thought it was a great way to show my support,” she explained with a smile.
As the Iron Mountain Half Marathon draws closer, the Kingsford High School tennis team is getting ready to fulfill their roles as volunteers. They are eager to make a positive impact on the runners and experience the power of community.
The marathon is expected to be a thrilling event, with participants showcasing their dedication and perseverance. With the support of the Kingsford High School tennis team and their water station, the runners will have an extra boost of encouragement along the way.
The players have found inspiration in the upcoming Iron Mountain Half Marathon, using the races as motivation for their own training. They’ve been hitting the track for some extra conditioning during practices, recognizing that the marathon’s dedication and hard work can benefit their own tennis season.
Ava Lovell expressed her thoughts on the matter, saying, “It does condition us for the tennis season.” The team’s commitment to their sport and the marathon has undoubtedly strengthened their skills and endurance.
As the team prepares for their first match against West-Iron School District this Thursday, they will also be ready to serve in downtown Iron Mountain near the Systems Control Stage for the half marathon’s big finish. No matter the outcome on the tennis court, the Kingsford High School tennis team is dedicated to giving their all and showing their sportsmanship both in their own matches, and as volunteers for the Iron Mountain Half Marathon.
As the 23rd of September approaches, the team is filled with excitement and anticipation. They are ready to stand together, proud of their contribution to the event, and demonstrate the spirit of unity and support.
The Iron Mountain Half Marathon promises to be an unforgettable experience for both the runners and the dedicated volunteers from the Kingsford High School tennis team. Keep tuning in to WZMQ for updates on this event.
