NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Trail exploring has gotten more accessible in the UP, even for those out of town. This weekend, August 19th-20th, residents and out-of-state visitors can legally ride 4,000 miles of DNR-designated trails without an ORV license or trail permit.
This free weekend also gives access to the state’s six scramble areas Bull Gap, Black Lake Scramble Area, Holly Oaks ORV Park, Silver Lake State Park, The Mounds, and St. Helen’s Motorsport Area. These areas can be found here.
Community members and those who are visiting can enjoy and explore the trails without cost. Trail Coordinators hope this attracts people to buy trail permits down in the near future and ultimately leads to more connected trails throughout the UP.
“We have a good interconnected system in the west UP, east UP’s growing, central UP’s growing and we’re working to connect those trails and so In years to come we hope to have interconnected ORV trail system that’ll bring people from anywhere from the Soo to Ironwood and be able to connect it all over,” commented UP Trail Coordinator Ron Yesney.
