ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – This weekend, an Escanaba nonprofit is hosting an event to support those in recovery.

The Delta Drop-In Center houses 12-step programs and fellowship opportunities for people recovering from addiction. Saturday, August 12 – Sunday, August 13, the Drop-In Center will hold a rummage sale.

According to Delta Drop-In Center Board President Richard Moberg, all proceeds will go toward the upkeep and maintenance of the facility so it can continue to be a safe place for people looking for support.

“I’d like people to see what this building actually has to offer,” Moberg said. “It’s a great facility. We’re looking to grow it so that, moving forward, we can have more stance in the community as something that can help people.”

One way the center is increasing ways to help is through the recent purchase of a large television. It will be used to bring outside speakers to the community through webcasts. Moberg is also excited to begin hosting movie nights for families of those in recovery.

“We wanted to have a place where people could take their young children on a Friday or Saturday night and watch a movie,” he said. “There’ll be popcorn and hotdogs and refreshments that will be very reasonably priced. A lot of our people love having their children with them, and some people need people around them when they have their children. This will be a safe space to spend some time with your kids.”

This weekend’s rummage sale begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. both days. The Drop-In Center is also accepting donations. Moberg says the biggest need is for toilet paper and paper towels.

“100% of what we receive goes back into this building,” said Moberg, “and we use it all for recovery purposes.”

The Delta Drop-In Center also has a donation-only clothing closet. Click here to see more of what the center offers.

Contact the Drop-In Center at (906) 786-9756 or recoverycenter@gmail.com for information on joining a group or becoming a club member. The center is located at 1500 North 19th Street.
