MUNISING, Mich. (WZMQ) – The community and those visiting Munising will see some new updates to the beach the weekend of August 4th. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, unveiling a new access area to ‘Miners Beach’, designated for authorized commercial use kayak companies.
The new area is located away from the main east and west points of entry to the beach to alleviate any congestion from beachgoers and those taking the guided kayak tours. Park Ranger Zachary Gostlin explained that this is a necessity due to the number of vacationers that they have, but ultimately, he hopes it also adds more viewing opportunities for those touring the Pictured Rocks.
“Our first priority is definitely the visitor experience we just want to improve that and make sure that folks have a really good time when they visit miners beach and the same thing whether they’re going on a guided kayaking tour or whether they’re just going to enjoy the water we just wanna make sure that they have that pleasant experience so that’s really the idea behind the project,” commented Gostlin.
The main east and west points of entry will now be designated solely for visitors and beachgoers and the additional access area will be open the weekend of August 4th.
