KINGSFORD, Mich. (WZMQ) – This morning, a little league baseball team in Dickinson County had all eyes on them as they headed downstate.
The Kingsford All Stars received a police escort out of Kingsford High School parking lot. The team headed to Petoskey where they’ll go up to bat against Gull Lake in the first game of their state tournament series. Head Coach Ed McCoy mentioned that the All-Stars were not only undefeated so far, but they also beat their local rivals to advance to the state tournament.
He stated, “Playing against Norway, last time we took them on at ten years old we beat them once, and then we lost to them twice, so we didn’t get to state because of that. So this year beating them guys was huge for us.”
The team will be playing three games in their series no matter what, and the top two teams from each division advance to the single-elimination play-off rounds in Petoskey.
Teammates on the all-star team, Logan McCoy, Colin Olsen, Connor Chrisman, Dawson Hood, Dylan Fortier, Gino Santoni, Griffin Johnson, Ian Hensley, Jake Fredrickson, Lucas Bottesi, Luke Rice, and Promice Setner were thrilled with their victory, and overjoyed to be heading to the state tournament in style.
