MARQUETTE, Mich.(WZMQ) – Online registration for the great lakes recovery center’s run for recover closes on Monday, June 17th.
The Run for Recovery is the Great Lakes Recovery Centers biggest fundraiser of the year. This year’s 16th annual fundraising event will have a Walk, 10K, and 5K in Marquette; A 5K and a Walk in Sault Ste. Marie; and a Walk in L’anse. Online registration is available for $25/person until Monday at runsignup.com/Race/MI/Cities/GLRCRunforRecovery
In person registration will also be available at the events on Wednesday, July 19th before it begins at 6PM.
The funds raised through the event go to the recovery centers compassionate care fund. Amy Poirier, The Centers Community Relations and Marketing Director says the fund goes to help those who need help paying for treatment.
“It might go to somebody who is in residential treatments and their insurance runs out but they need to finish up their treatment there, we can help with that.” Poirier said. “it might help with somebody needing out patient services for mental health and substance use disorder.”
This years event will have an honorary captain to kick off the event. Jeff Olson, Do it for Daniel Speaker, will be filling that role. Do it for Daniel is a awareness campaign created in the name of Daniel Olson, an Ishpeming High School student who completed suicide in 2012. Jeff Olson speaks at events across the state to rase awareness and erase the stigma around mental health.
