MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette Mountain is bringing some more lake-viewing opportunities to the UP community. It’s the mountain’s second year running the Guided Historical Kayak Tours of Marquette, offering the community two different tours on the lake.
The Presque Isle tour explores the black rocks cliff line and the eastern side of Presque. The Lower Harbor tour aims to teach the community about Iron Ore Industry, exploring Founder’s Landing, Lower Harbor Ore Dock, and the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse. Kayak Operations Manager Miranda Golke said that even though the UP does offer other various lake tours, the kayak tours focus on the history of what made Marquette what it is today.
“It’s just magnificent being that up close and personal with the ore doc and you can just see the industrial period and be in it, and with the history aspect of it too it just brings you back to that time it’s just awesome,” commented Kayak Operations Manager Miranda Gohlke.
Marquette Mountain also offers weekday tours by appointment only.
