ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Wednesday, an Escanaba retirement and assisted living facility provided a free healthcare service for community members.
North Woods Place held a public blood pressure clinic in honor of National Senior Health and Fitness Day.
According to executive director Dax Canty, North Woods Place works to promote physical and mental wellness for residents. He says clinics like these are important for everyone, as blood pressure can be an indicator of overall health.
“We know heart disease is the number problem in America,” Canty said. “It’s estimated that every 43 seconds, somebody has a heart attack in the United States. I know a lot of times, people don’t know if they’re having high blood pressure or even low blood pressure. We also know ageism is increasing in America, and we want to provide care for them.”
North Woods Place offers weekly blood pressure tests for its residents to make sure they are healthy.
Canty says North Woods Place plans to host similar events to the blood pressure clinic in the future. Visit the facility’s Facebook page to see when other clinics will be held.
