MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – The orange barrels are already out on road shoulders in preparation for a construction project through one of the busiest portions of US-41 in Marquette County.
MDOT will begin work on 6.2 miles of US-41 from Iroquois Dr. in Negaunee to Brickyard Rd. in Marquette Township starting Friday, June 5.
The $8.3 million project includes asphalt resurfacing, joint repairs, and adding left turn lanes.
Highway crossovers will be reconfigured from the east intersection of Heritage Dr. to the end of the grass median of Pond Rd. This will include building truck loons, areas of pavement outside of the normal traffic lanes to provide additional room for commercial vehicles to turn.
Drivers should expect shoulder and single-lane closures. Some paving will take place overnight to reduce traffic impacts. Individual crossovers will be closed for rebuilding, and alternating crossovers will be left open.
The project is expected to be completed by late September 2023.
MDOT expects the project to directly and indirectly support 100 jobs.
