MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Tonight $113,061 was awarded in scholarships to seniors at Marquette Senior High School.
The Marquette Area Public Schools Education Foundation awarded 142 scholarships at the annual local scholarship event. The money for the scholarships comes from the Education Foundation, Marquette Area Public Schools, the Community Foundation, and local service clubs.
According to coordinators if a student isn’t planning on attending a college or university they can still benefit from receiving a scholarship.
“This gives the students the opportunity to have some funds to start those careers, whether it be college, apprenticeship programs, or working as a small business program, so we are excited for our students,” said Linda Walton, the President of the MAPS education foundation.
A majority of the scholarships will be received through the mail within the next few weeks.
