MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – American Idol singer Cam Amen was visiting the city of Marquette May 14-17th performing the popular song “Hallelujah” around town.
At the Ramada Inn on May 16th, Amen performed and spoke at the Michigan Youth Opportunity Initiative Event, inspiring those in foster care and furthering the conversation on how to better care for children in need. “When I was growing up I didn’t I thought I was the only one going through this stuff so just to show them that they have a side kick somebody there that’s willing to put everything out there and give them what they need,” commented Amen.
Great Lakes recovery center hosted the event and the center commented that without people like Amen, the message might be misunderstood. Marketing Director Amy Poirier said that speaking out about these situations firsthand may give those still in foster care a new sense of self-confidence.
“Some families might have some misconceptions about what being a foster parent is because every foster situation is different. Hearing one story is just that hearing one story but the more stories that we can hear the more we can talk about it,” commented Poirier.
