GOGEBIC COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Gogebic Range Water Authority has begun to shift to the City of Bessemer Water in response to the boil water advisory from the ongoing E.coli contamination in the Wakefield wells.
The advisory includes municipal water supply in Bessemer Township, Ironwood Township, the city, and the Township of Wakefield. Before the advisory can be lifted, GRWA staff has to replace the existing water in the storage and distribution systems through pumping and hydrant flushing.
This process started on Thursday, May 4th, on the East end of Ironwood Township with flushing and refilling GRWA storage tanks and is expected to finish Friday.
Customers are advised to continue boiling and conserving their water storage and will be notified as soon as the Boil Water Advisory is lifted.
Municipal water customers that are affected by the advisory may experience temporary low pressure and water discoloration.
The GRWA currently does not have a timeline for the completion of the transfer of water.
