HARRIS, Mich. (WZMQ) – Bark River-Harris Schools administration and local authorities have determined there is “no credible threat” after an incident earlier this week.

According to a now-deleted statement released on the Bark River-Harris Schools Facebook page on April 25, administrators learned on Monday, April 24 of an alleged statement made about a potential threat to the schools.

Administrators searched the locker and backpack of the student who was said to have made the threat. After interviewing students, contacting the Menominee County Sheriff’s Department, and speaking with the student’s parents, administrators determined there was “no viable threat.”

To be cautious, Menominee County deputies were at the school throughout April 25. Sheriff’s Department representatives and school administrators met with more students, staff, and parents Tuesday morning. According to the sheriff’s office, “no threat could be substantiated.”

In a press release, Menominee County Sheriff Michael Holmes said, “School threat assessments have become a routine function for both Law Enforcement and Education. Student safety is paramount.”

Bark River-Harris Schools declined WZMQ 19’s request for a statement.
