MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – U.P. native and NMU football star Jake Witt is in his final days of preparation for the NFL draft.
Witt has been working hard to earn himself a spot on an NFL roster since last year when he declared for the draft. He has been working alongside a trainer based in Marquette. He has been to multiple NFL facilities around the country and is fine-tuning his skills before the draft begins Thursday.
“This last phase of preparation period is all about getting to play football,” Witt when on to say “I’m just training all the football skills knowing that in two, two and half weeks I’ll be in a mini-camp.”
Witt says he could be drafted as early as the fourth round. although its not guaranteed his name will be called this weekend, something that Witt says wouldn’t be the end of his NFL journey.
“Obviously being drafted would be super cool, and awesome, but theirs benefits to [being drafted or not], if you go undrafted, I will probably be one of the priority guys,” remarked Witt.
Witt also mentioned the advantage of being able to choose the best fit for himself if he does go undrafted this weekend.
The NFL draft begins on Thursday (4/27) at 7 p.m.
