WELLS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – A group of good Samaritans is gathering this Earth Day to clean up one of Delta County’s highways.
The group’s organizer, Shareena Profit, says she and others noticed a lot of litter along the highway between Escanaba and Gladstone. She decided to do something about it.
On April 22, volunteers will be picking up trash in the medians. The group is looking for additional volunteers to join them in making Delta County a nicer place to live.
“I just wanted to get some people out together to help,” Profit said. “It’s a long stretch. A lot of people drive through here–tourists, people working every day. This will help us all in our own way, so let’s just all work together, come together as a community.”
Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves and trash bags. Wearing bright clothing is recommended.
Profit and others will begin the cleanup at 10 a.m. However, there is no schedule for the day. Anyone who wants to help is welcome to clean at any part of the day.
