ALGER COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Kingsford man faces charges of child sexually abusive activity after an undercover operation in Alger County.
Matthew Clarence Cooley, 39, was arrested on March 10, 2023 following the undercover operation. He is charged with engaging in child sexually abusive activity, using a computer to commit and crime, and possession of methamphetamine.
The Alger County Sheriff’s Office said Cooley communicated with an officer posing as a 15-year-old girl on social media with intentions of engaging in sexual intercourse. Cooley allegedly communicated interest in having sex and traveled to the Munising area to do so.
Upon his arrival at the predetermined location, Cooley was arrested. The possession of meth charge came as the result of a search of his vehicle.
Cooley is currently on bond awaiting a preliminary hearing in 93rd District Court.
